What this place is

A field on the highway that fills
up every evening.

Fourteen years on the Vishat–Koba road, and still the easiest place to seat twelve people without booking.

Mangal Murti started in 2011 as a dhaba on the road out to Koba, and it has never really stopped being one — steel thali, coal tandoor, ghee poured with a heavy hand. What grew around it was the garden: lights through the trees, a bonfire when the weather turns, a small mandir lit every evening, and a slide in the sand that keeps the children busy long enough for the rotla to arrive hot.

Four kitchens run at once — Kathiyawadi, Punjabi, Chinese and the dal bati counter. Families come for dinner, offices come for parties, and on winter nights the whole lawn fills up.

The plates people drive out for

દાળ બાટીDal bati first.
Then everything else.

Bati baked over coal until the crust splits on its own, a bowl of ghee to push them into, dal straight from the patila it was cooked in, churma, and a tall glass of chaas. Three hundred rupees, under an open sky.

Turn the plates to see what else leaves the four kitchens — Punjabi gravies, Kathiyawadi rotla, the coal tandoor and Chinese.
